Job Description

We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and assembly of our weather sensing hardware and satellite systems. This role sits at the intersection of mechanical design and atmospheric instrumentation and is ideal for someone who takes pride in building things right the first time. You'll work closely with our engineering team to assemble and validate hardware that eventually ends up in orbit, collecting microwave radiometry data that feeds directly into global weather forecasting models.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and build precision aerospace electro-mechanical, and/or opto-mechanical flight hardware systems, components, and/or ground support and test equipment from concept through detailed design, fabrication, and assembly.
  • CAD model in Solidworks, employ geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and analyze designs for function and manufacturability.
  • Develop mechanical drawings to send items for manufacture.
  • Participate in mechanical trade studies.
  • Participate in assembly and mechanical integration process development including procedure documentation and improvement.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated creativity in mechanical engineering design, including the ability to conceive and develop configurable products across a diverse set of customer needs.
  • Experience with CAD design using SolidWorks.
  • Experience creating mechanical drawings and working with manufacturers to refine designs and drawings.
  • Ability to thoroughly and clearly document products and processes.
  • Must be able to work in a highly collaborative, fast paced, startup environment.
  • Organized and motivated team player, with the ability to manage multiple projects while paying close attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively explain protocol and processes to an audience with varied technical knowledge and experience.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or demonstrated experience in a similar role.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with RF principles
  • Exposure to small satellite systems, CubeSats, or passive radiometry

Work Environment

Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment. May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required. May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position may require long hours and weekend work.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area, overnight or international travel may be expected.
