Lead SAP ABAP Developer

Chicago, IL | Full-Time Direct Hire | Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite

We are seeking an experienced Lead SAP ABAP Developer for a full-time, direct-hire opportunity with an established organization in the Chicago area.

This is primarily a hands-on development role for a senior-level ABAP developer who can work independently, partner directly with business and functional teams, and take ownership of complex SAP solutions. Over time, the position will evolve into broader technical leadership and mentoring responsibilities.

Candidates must be local to the Chicago area or able to consistently commute to the office three days per week.

What We're Looking For

The strongest candidates will bring:

• Approximately 8–12 years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience
• Strong traditional and Object-Oriented ABAP development skills
• Experience with or solid knowledge of SAP S/4HANA
• Experience translating business requirements into technical solutions
• Functional exposure to one or more SAP business areas, preferably Supply Chain/MM, Finance/FI-CO, or Sales & Distribution (SD)
• Ability to independently design, develop, troubleshoot, test, and support SAP solutions
• Strong communication skills and experience working directly with Business Analysts, functional teams, and business stakeholders
• Ability to mentor other developers and contribute to technical design discussions
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience

What You'll Work On

You will design, develop, enhance, and support custom SAP solutions across ECC and S/4HANA environments.

Responsibilities may include:

• Custom ABAP programs, reports, enhancements, and interfaces
• Object-Oriented ABAP, BAdIs, exits, and enhancement techniques
• SAPscript and Smartforms
• BAPIs, RFCs, Function Modules, and Data Dictionary
• Debugging, performance tuning, testing, and production support
• S/4HANA development and custom-code optimization
• Code reviews and technical documentation
• Collaboration with business and functional teams throughout the development lifecycle

As the role develops, you will have the opportunity to take greater ownership of projects, mentor developers, review development work, and provide broader technical guidance.
