What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations + People Manager position at We Let the Dogs Out, LLC?
Operations & People Manager
We Let the Dogs Out | Connecticut Shoreline
25–30 Hours/Week to Start | Growth Potential to 30–35 Hours & Full-Time | $24-26 per hour to start
Help us build a great team and an even stronger company.
We Let the Dogs Out is an established professional pet care company known for reliable care, high standards, strong communication and an exceptional team.
We're looking for an Operations & People Manager who can help us develop and lead that team while strengthening the systems and operations behind it.
This is not simply an administrative or hiring position. We're looking for someone who sees what needs to happen, takes ownership, follows through without being chased, and is comfortable holding people to high standards while being a supportive leader.
What You'll Own
People Hiring
- Lead recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding and training
- Maintain a proactive hiring pipeline and anticipate staffing needs
- Coordinate with team trainers to ensure employees are prepared for independent work
- Conduct employee check-ins, coaching, performance reviews and accountability conversations
- Develop employees, reinforce company standards, and address performance concerns promptly
Culture Team Development
- Build trust and connection with our independently working field team
- Keep a pulse on morale, communication, and employee challenges
- Recognize excellent performance and create opportunities for growth
- Foster a culture where employees feel supported, heard, and accountable
Operations
- Work closely with our leadership team to keep people, schedules, systems, and service standards working together
- Identify operational gaps and solve recurring problems at their source
- Improve workflows, communication, SOPs, and accountability
- Track staffing capacity, operational performance, and key metrics
- Ensure responsibilities have clear ownership and follow-through
- Provide leadership support when unusual circumstances require it
You won't be our daily scheduler or expected to do everything yourself. Your job is to help ensure the right people and systems are in place so the operation runs effectively.
Who Will Thrive Here
You'll likely be a great fit if you:
- Are highly organized without becoming rigid
- Take initiative, use good judgment, and follow through consistently
- Are comfortable having direct, respectful accountability conversations
- Can support employees without avoiding difficult decisions
- Notice patterns, solve problems, and think beyond your own task list
- Stay calm, communicate clearly, and adapt when priorities change
- Love developing people and actively seek opportunities to grow yourself
Schedule Flexibility
Our business operates seven days a week, and our team works mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
This position begins at approximately 25–30 hours per week, with a core weekday schedule and the flexibility to occasionally adjust hours for evening or weekend onboarding, training, employee meetings or operational needs.
We respect boundaries and don't expect anyone to be available 24/7. We do expect a leader who understands that supporting a seven-day operation sometimes requires flexibility. That generally means shifting hours, not simply adding them. And flexibility works both ways.
Leadership Professional Growth
We want someone who is excited to become an important member of our leadership team.
We invest in professional development, leadership education, industry programs, and opportunities to learn from other successful businesses.
We're looking for someone who brings ideas back, puts them into action, and wants to grow personally and professionally alongside WLTDO.
For the right person, this role has the opportunity to grow to 30–35 hours and potentially full-time, with increasing responsibility and leadership opportunities.
We want this role to become bigger because the person in it becomes capable of owning more - not simply because they've been here longer.
What Success Looks Like
Six months from now:
- Our hiring pipeline is healthy and new employees are trained consistently
- Employees feel supported, developed and held accountable
- Performance issues are addressed promptly
- Our strongest employees are recognized and encouraged to grow
- Operational problems have clear owners and lasting solutions
- Leadership has better visibility into staffing, performance and capacity
- Problems are increasingly prevented rather than repeatedly becoming emergencies
And the owner spends less time chasing details because there's another leader in the business who sees them too.
If this sounds like the kind of challenge that energizes you, and the kind of leader you want to become, we'd love to meet you.
Please send your resume and a few sentences describing the hardest staff conversation you've had and how it went to rachel@thedogsout.com.
