Field Mechanic – Heavy Equipment (CAT Equipment Specialist)

- We are seeking a highly experienced Field Mechanic with strong working knowledge of Caterpillar Inc. (CAT) equipment. This position is ideal for a mechanic who specializes in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining CAT heavy equipment and understands the systems, diagnostics, and performance standards specific to CAT machinery.
The Field Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on heavy equipment and trucks at various job sites. This role requires advanced mechanical expertise, strong diagnostic abilities, and the confidence to work independently in field conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues on heavy equipment, with a strong focus on CAT machinery
- Perform on-site repairs and maintenance on CAT construction equipment
- Utilize CAT diagnostic software and tools when applicable
- Conduct preventative maintenance services, including inspections, lubrication, and system adjustments
- Repair or replace defective components including engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and emissions components
- Troubleshoot complex system failures efficiently and accurately
- Respond to service calls in a timely and professional manner
- Maintain accurate service records and complete detailed work orders
- Ensure all repairs meet safety, compliance, and manufacturer standards
- Communicate equipment status, repair timelines, and parts needs with supervisors and operators
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked service truck
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment mechanic experience required
- Strong experience working specifically on CAT equipment preferred
- Ability to work independently in field conditions and the shop
- Valid driver’s license
