Director of Acute Pharmacy Services
Location: Northern Illinois & Southern Wisconsin
Job Type:Permanent Full-Time
Shift Information:Monday to Friday, Day Shift Hours with 24/7 Accountability
Job Summary:The Director of Acute Care Pharmacy Services is responsible for leadership, operations, financial management, regulatory compliance, and quality oversight of all acute care hospital pharmacy departments within the facility. This role ensures alignment of pharmacy services with system goals, optimizes efficiency, and enhances patient care quality. The director collaborates at a system level to standardize medication use processes across all hospital-based clinical service areas.
Education & Experience:Required:
- PharmD from an accredited college or university
- Completion of ASHP-accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency in health-system pharmacy administration or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years of health-system pharmacy leadership and management experience
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in pharmacy administration, healthcare administration, or business
- At least 5 years in administrative positions within a large academic or complex health system
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in Illinois and Wisconsin
- Board certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialists (preferred)
- Develop and implement system-wide programs, policies, and protocols to improve efficiency, quality, and patient safety
- Create strategic vision and lead development of new programs and services
- Collaborate with medical staff, nursing, and ancillary services
- Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and state/federal regulations (including USP 797 & USP 800)
- Monitor financial performance, staffing, and operational budgets
- Lead committees such as Pharmacy & Therapeutics, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Opioid Stewardship, and Medication Diversion
- Oversee drug distribution to ambulatory clinics
- Manage interdepartmental relationships for effective operations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong organizational, leadership, and change management skills
- Advanced knowledge of health-system pharmacy operations and EPIC EMR
- Ability to problem-solve and lead initiatives
- Familiarity with 340B and Specialty Pharmacy programs
