WDS Construction is seeking a Project Intern to join our team for Summer 2027. As a WDS intern, you’ll gain real-world construction experience in both our Beaver Dam, Wisconsin office and on active project sites throughout the United States.


This is more than a typical internship. You’ll work alongside experienced Project Managers, Superintendents, Coordinators, and Estimators who are committed to teaching, supporting, and challenging you. You’ll contribute to active projects, develop industry knowledge, and gain firsthand exposure to the many facets of commercial construction.


Candidates must be comfortable with nationwide travel throughout the internship.

INTERNSHIP TRACKS


Project Intern – Project Management

As a Project Management Intern, you’ll gain firsthand experience in the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial construction projects.


Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities

  • Shadow and support a Senior Project Manager
  • Assist Project Coordinators with project documentation and communication
  • Participate in the submittal review and tracking process
  • Observe and assist with project buyout activities
  • Attend project team and owner meetings
  • Review construction drawings and specifications
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and material quantification
  • Assist with Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Support project documentation and closeout activities
  • Visit active WDS jobsites
  • Attend and participate in safety committee meetings


Project Intern – Field Operations

As a Field Operations Intern, you’ll work alongside Superintendents and field leaders to learn the day-to-day management of active construction projects.


Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities

  • Shadow and support a Superintendent on an active project
  • Complete daily reports using Raken
  • Participate in jobsite coordination activities
  • Lead or assist with toolbox talks and site meetings
  • Verify field dimensions and existing site conditions
  • Update two-week and three-week look-ahead schedules
  • Conduct jobsite walks and inspections
  • Support quality control efforts
  • Participate in jobsite safety initiatives
  • Attend and participate in safety committee meetings


Project Intern – Estimating

As an Estimating Intern, you’ll learn the preconstruction and bidding process while working alongside experienced estimating professionals.


Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities

  • Shadow and support Estimators and Senior Estimators
  • Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers via phone and email
  • Attend pre-bid and project handoff meetings
  • Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications
  • Assist in assembling project proposals
  • Research new geographic markets and identify qualified subcontractors and suppliers
  • Review and qualify subcontractor quotes
  • Gain exposure to budgeting, scope analysis, and bid leveling processes

  • Pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Building Construction, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work effectively in both office and field settings
  • Interest in pursuing a career in the construction industry
  • Ability and willingness to travel nationwide throughout the internship
