JOB DESCRIPTION
HISTORIC FARM COORDINATOR
Status: Full-time
Pay Grade: 9
Salary Range: $30.41/hr. - $30.82/hr. ($63,252.80 - $64,105.60)
Reports To: Program Manager
Classification: Intermediate – Employee has supervisory responsibilities relating to full-time, seasonal, and part-time staff, interns, and volunteers. Employee has the authority to recommend any reward or disciplinary actions necessary.
The position of Historic Farm Coordinator directly involves but is not limited to the following illustrative duties:
1. Researches, plans, develops, implements and evaluates programs, activities, and special events that inform the public (schools, community organizations, and the public) of the history of the Carter Historic Farm (CHF) and Zimmerman One-room School, the Great Black Swamp, settlement, the depression era and northwest Ohio agriculture on the farm property and at off-site locations when appropriate.
2. Operates, cleans and maintains CHF including but not limited to the farmhouse, barn and outbuildings, historical farming, historical farm equipment and tools, livestock care, agricultural crops, grounds, and garden plantings; and ensures compliance with best practices, guidelines, standards, and ethics.
3. Coordinates, supervises, and trains full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees, interns, and volunteers to assist with farm activities; creates and distributes staff schedules; assigns, monitors, and evaluates work; and ensures adequate staffing and availability of equipment and supplies to complete tasks.
4. Plans, coordinates, and participates in farm crop development and maintenance: develops and implements garden; plans purchase of seeds; maps and lays out crop location; plants, maintains, and harvests garden produce; and preserves and donates produce, as appropriate.
5. Plans, coordinates, and participates in farm animal development and care: plans livestock breeding, purchase, and sale; and participates in and ensures for daily feeding and care of livestock.
6. Coordinates with individuals and organizations, including but not limited to Power of Yesteryear, blacksmiths, woodworkers, leather smiths, antique tool collectors, historical farm machinery collectors, spinners, 4-H groups, and FFA, to provide demonstrations, presentations, and services.
7. Creates interpretive, educational, and interactive displays, exhibits, signage and related brochures and fliers pertaining to the subjects listed above.
8. Creates and maintains Collections Policy and Donation Form for acquisitions and donated items and works with a Collections Committee to make decisions on accepting or declining possible donations.
9. Manages the historic collections and acquisition of historic items, including donations, documentation, inventory, maintenance, cleaning, repair, storage, and placement of the items; and updates and maintains data in collections management software.
10. Develops and facilitates exhibit design, fabrication and installation; coordinates research of artifacts, cultural and farming history; coordinates the research and design of signage for the site, buildings, exhibits, artifacts, and activity interpretive signage.
11. Coordinates all farm planning and activities with other departments and staff as needed.
12. Researches and applies for appropriate grant funding as it relates to CHF.
13. Generates an annual budget proposal for CHF equipment, materials, supplies, maintenance, and operations; and administers approved budget.
14. Assists the Community & Communications Specialist with public relations and media projects, radio interviews, news releases, and articles as they relate to CHF.
15. Works a schedule that ensures the smooth operation of CHF including evenings/weekends and holidays when necessary; provides for other staff and/or volunteers to conduct required duties such as animal care when away on days off, vacation, sick days, seminars, etc.
16. Maintains current certifications in CPR and First Aid.
17. Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach objects overhead on shelving, regularly lift objects up to 50 pounds, work outdoors and in non-climate-controlled buildings, as well as indoors performing CHF-related office functions.
18. Performs other duties assigned by the Program Manager or Director that are deemed appropriate and necessary for the position.
19. Must be team oriented and willing to work to build an atmosphere of teamwork in the workplace with staff at all levels.
Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in history, agriculture, education, or related field is required; supplemented by three (3) years of experience providing public programs for all ages and backgrounds, preferably in a historic farm setting. Must have working knowledge of interactive educational museum operations, historical farming practices and operations, agricultural experience/knowledge, and history of northwest Ohio. Completion of Supervisor’s Management School within 5 years of hire is recommended. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and computer competency. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Pay: $63,252.80 - $64,105.60 per year
