Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Broadcast Engineer role based in Charlotte, NC. The Broadcast Engineer will install, maintain, and repair broadcast and production equipment, including studio systems, control room gear, transmission systems, and related IT-based infrastructure. Responsibilities include monitoring on-air signals, diagnosing and resolving technical issues quickly to minimize downtime, and performing preventative maintenance on RF, audio, video, and IP-based systems. The role will collaborate closely with news, production, and operations teams to support live newscasts, remote broadcasts, and special events, ensuring consistent high-quality audio and video output. The Broadcast Engineer will also help document systems, implement technical upgrades, follow industry standards and FCC regulations, and participate in an on-call rotation as needed to support 24/7 operations.
Qualifications
  • Strong foundational skills in Broadcast Engineering and Broadcasting, with hands-on experience in a broadcast television environment.
  • Proficiency in Troubleshooting and Technical Support for RF, audio, video, and IP-based systems used in broadcast operations.
  • Experience with Broadcast Television systems, including studio equipment, master control, transmission, routing, and automation platforms.
  • Working knowledge of digital and IP-based workflows, computer networking basics, and related broadcast-IT convergence technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, signal flow diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a live, time-sensitive environment.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with engineering, news, production, and management staff.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts, as required by a 24/7 operation.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
