Youth Emergency Shelter | Manchester, NH
Full-Time (32-40 Hours per Week)
Schedule: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM
Starting Pay: $21.00/hour Shift Differential

What You'll Do

As a Second Shift Shelter Staff member, you'll play a critical role in creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment during evening shelter operations.

You will:

✔ Welcome youth into the shelter and conduct intakes for new participants

✔ Support young people with immediate needs including meals, hygiene supplies, and community resources

✔ Build positive, trusting relationships while using trauma-informed and youth-centered approaches

✔ Conduct safety checks and maintain a safe, respectful shelter environment

✔ Respond to crises with compassion, professionalism, and effective de-escalation techniques

✔ Coordinate shelter operations, maintain documentation, and communicate important updates with team members

✔ Help youth develop life skills, accountability, independence, and confidence

✔ Foster an inclusive environment where every young person feels respected, supported, and heard

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Additional education in social work, human services, youth development, or a related field preferred
  • Experience working with youth, especially those experiencing homelessness, trauma, or crisis, strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and de-escalation practices is a plus
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Basic computer proficiency for documentation and communication

Physical & Schedule Requirements

  • Evening schedule: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM
  • Weekend availability required
  • Ability to stand, walk stairs, and remain active throughout the shift
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 25 pounds
  • Willingness to perform light housekeeping and facility upkeep duties
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment supporting youth in crisis
