Waynflete School seeks a certified Athletic Trainer to begin in August 2026.  This is a full-time, 10-month position running from mid August to mid June.  Duties include:

1. Clinical Injury Care & Prevention

  • On-Site Coverage: Provide medical coverage for all Upper School (US) and Middle School (MS) athletic practices, home games, and occasional away games (playoffs in particular).

  • Travel: Provide coverage for post-season varsity away games when feasible.

  • Assessment & Treatment: Evaluate, treat, and provide referrals for athletic injuries; lead the rehabilitation process for injured student-athletes.

  • Prevention: Collaborate with coaches on injury prevention strategies and assist teams with strength and conditioning requests during the season.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the central point of contact for injury follow-up between athletes, parents, coaches, physicians, and physical therapists.

2. Administrative & Protocol Management

  • Clearance & Compliance: Manage the clearance process for pre-season participation, ensuring all health forms and physicals are completed and student health form compliance is met.

  • Documentation: Maintain rigorous documentation of injuries and follow-up care. Prepare and coordinate follow-up on student accident reports.

  • Concussion Management: Lead the concussion protocol (utilizing tools like SWAY) from initial injury through the "Return to Play" phase, coordinating with families, providers, and Academic Support.

  • Reporting: Notify advisors, the Athletic Director (AD), and the Health Coordinator (HC) of significant injuries within 24 hours.

3. Operations & Logistics

  • Inventory: Manage, order, and inventory all medical supplies for the Athletics Department.

  • Team Support: Seasonally prepare and restock medical kits for coaches; provide water and ice for home/away teams, ensuring all jugs are sanitized after use.

  • Facility Support: Support the operations of the Wellness & Athletic Facility, which may include fitness center supervision or assisting with P.E. programming. Occasional responsibility for closing our facility at the end of an evening. 

  • Meetings: Attend all pre-season coaches’ meetings and departmental staff meetings.

4. Health Team & Campus Safety

  • Emergency Response: Serve as an active member of the campus emergency team.

  • Training & Certification: Conduct First Aid and CPR/AED training for coaches and school employees (typically 5–6 sessions per year) and maintain all training records.

  • Equipment Oversight: Regularly check and maintain campus AEDs and up-to-date EpiPens.

  • Health Coordinator Support: Assist the Health Coordinator with student health questions, universal precaution supplies for bus drivers, emergency backpacks, and coverage duties when the Coordinator is off-site.

Hours. Flexibility will be required throughout the year. Generally hours would run from 10:30am- 7:00pm with a 45 minute lunch break from Monday through Friday. Some Saturday game coverage will also be required. A typical week during each athletic season is 45 hours. 

Qualifications. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience. Athletic training ATC degree.  Certified as a first aid and CPR trainer by the American Heart Association or other school–approved organization (this can be obtained after hire). Two years’ experience in athletic training.

Computer Skills. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have or acquire knowledge of the following basic technology skills, and be able to learn additional programs based on departmental needs.

  • Basic File Management (Open/Saving files, creating new folders for organization)

  • Google Docs and Microsoft word

  • Waynflete Website (login and navigate)

  • Magnus

  • Veracross
