Job Summary
Waynesboro Landscape & Garden Center, a family-owned business since 1946, is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Garden Maintenance Manager to lead and expand our horticultural services. The ideal candidate will possess a deep passion for plant health, a strong eye for detail, and the leadership skills necessary to manage a high-performing maintenance division.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Leadership: Lead the strategic development and execution of a comprehensive garden maintenance program.
- Division Management: Oversee daily operations for the maintenance division, ensuring all horticultural tasks—including pruning, weeding, fertilization, deadheading, and general bed care—are completed to the highest standards
- Plant Healthcare: Regularly inspect plant material to monitor health, identify pests or diseases, and implement appropriate treatment plans
- Team Training: Mentor and train crew members in professional gardening techniques, equipment safety, and best practices
- Asset Management: Ensure the proper care, organization, and maintenance of company vehicles, tools, and equipment
Requirements & Qualifications:
Horticultural Expertise: A strong working knowledge of ornamental plants, including annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs, is required
Education: A degree in Horticulture or a related field is preferred, though equivalent professional experience will be considered
Licensing:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Certified Pesticide Applicator License
- Certified Virginia Horticulturist (VNLA) designation, or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire
Professionalism: Must be self-motivated, organized, and capable of prioritizing tasks independently. We value candidates who are customer-oriented, punctual, and presentable
Availability: Ability to work 40–50 hours per week during peak seasons
