Job Summary The Supervisor, Laboratory – Chemistry oversees the daily operations of the chemistry laboratory, ensuring accurate and timely testing results in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. This role involves supervising a team of chemists and laboratory technicians, maintaining quality control protocols, and supporting cross-functional initiatives for product quality, research, and development. Job Responsibilities Laboratory Operations Management: Supervise daily activities of the chemistry laboratory, including chemical analyses, quality control testing, and research projects. Ensure all chemical tests, including titrations, spectroscopy, chromatography, and moisture analysis, are performed according to SOPs and industry standards. Maintain laboratory inventory and oversee the proper use, calibration, and maintenance of analytical instruments (e.g., HPLC, GC, ICP, FTIR). Team Leadership & Development: Manage a team of chemists and laboratory technicians, setting daily priorities and assigning tasks. Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to team members. Conduct performance evaluations and manage team development plans. Quality Control & Assurance: Implement and monitor quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy, precision, and reliability of analytical results. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as ISO 17025, FDA, USDA, and company policies. Maintain proper documentation for all tests, calibrations, and quality control activities. Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Enforce laboratory safety protocols and ensure adherence to chemical safety standards, such as OSHA and GHS. Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure regulatory and internal policy compliance. Report and investigate any laboratory incidents and implement corrective actions. Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Production, and R&D teams to support chemical testing needs and resolve product quality issues. Participate in cross-functional investigations and root cause analysis for product quality concerns. Provide technical support during customer audits and regulatory inspections. Data Management & Reporting: Analyze and review laboratory test results, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting. Maintain accurate laboratory records, logs, and reports according to company policies and regulatory standards. Utilize laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for data entry, tracking, and reporting. Qualifications & Experience Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field. Master’s degree preferred. Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a chemistry laboratory, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role. Experience in an industrial, food safety, pharmaceutical, or environmental testing laboratory is preferred. Skills: Strong leadership and team management abilities. Proficiency in chemical analysis techniques such as HPLC, GC, ICP, FTIR, and wet chemistry methods. Knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 17025, FDA, USDA, EPA). Proficiency in LIMS and analytical instrumentation software. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
