Wayne State Athletics is seeking a Graphic Design Graduate Assistant to lead the development of visual content across all varsity programs. This role is ideal for a designer who can execute at a high level, manage multiple projects, and help guide the overall look and feel of Warrior Athletics.
Position Overview
Leads graphic design execution, manages creative requests, and oversees student design staff. This role requires strong design skills, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver consistent, high-quality work in a fast-paced athletics environment.
Reports to: Associate AD for Marketing and Brand Strategy
Works closely with: Athletics Photography & Video GA, Marketing & Communications Staff
Key Responsibilities
Graphic Design & Production
- Design graphics for social media, web, email, and print
- Create and update content for video boards and in-venue displays
- Develop campaign-based creative (season launches, postseason, recruiting, ticketing)
- Ensure visual consistency across all teams and platforms
Creative Operations
- Manage incoming design requests across all sports and departments
- Prioritize projects and maintain workflow to meet deadlines
- Develop templates and systems for recurring content
- Maintain organization of design files and assets
Student Design Team Oversight
- Assist in hiring graphic design interns
- Assign and review design projects
- Provide feedback and mentorship to student designers
- Ensure all intern work meets department standards
Planning & Collaboration
- Collaborate with marketing, communications, and external relations on content strategy
- Work alongside the Photography & Video GA to align content across platforms
- Assist in planning and executing major creative campaigns
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Wayne State Athletics’ visual identity
Creative Support (Secondary)
- Assist with motion graphics or video projects as needed
- Support gameday content needs, including real-time graphics when applicable

Qualifications
- Admitted to or eligible for a Wayne State graduate program
- Strong portfolio demonstrating graphic design ability
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and visual consistency
Preferred Experience
- Experience in athletics or sports design
- Motion graphics experience (After Effects or similar)
- Understanding of social media content design
- Experience mentoring or leading creative teams
