What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Youth Program Site Manager (Temporary) position at WAYNE-METROPOLITAN COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY?
Scope:
Responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of summer school programming targeting at-risk youth ages 5–17 in both licensed and non-licensed settings. This role provides oversight of program operations, including staff, students, families, and community partnerships, while ensuring the delivery of high-quality academic, life skills, and recreational activities.
Essential Functions
- Design, coordinate, and deliver summer programming in collaboration with local partners.
- Establish and maintain a structured schedule of activities that promote academic, emotional, and social development.
- Implement and uphold program behavior management policies.
- Oversee daily program operations, including drop-off and pick-up procedures.
- Maintain program attendance records and sign-in/sign-out processes.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and organized program environment by identifying and addressing potential hazards.
- Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate program staff.
- Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Identify staff development needs and coordinate appropriate training opportunities.
- Promote programs to the community to recruit and retain participants.
- Enrolling youth and maintaining strong relationships with students and families.
- Foster an inclusive environment that respects diversity across race, gender, age, ability, and cultural backgrounds.
- Monitor program progress toward goals and adjust implementation strategies as needed.
- Track expenditures and ensure proper use of grant funds.
- Collect and maintain data for internal reporting and funder requirements, including pre- and post-assessments.
- Prepare reports and evaluations of program effectiveness.
- Work with and demonstrate commitment, caring, and respect for children and adults regardless of race, gender, age, disability, and cultural or ethnic background
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Schools/Professional: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk, sit, see, talk and hear, and use hands to manipulate. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb steps, stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The employee is required to supervise students, requiring the employee to match walking speed that matches the student and may at times require the ability to run to safeguard students. The employee must occasionally lift (up to 50 pounds), carry, and move students. Employees must occasionally move equipment and/or supplies. The job is performed for the most part in a school setting with occasional outside weather conditions. The noise level is that of a typical school setting.
Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent. Child related fields include early childhood, secondary education, elementary education, special education, physical education, child guidance, child counseling, child psychology, family studies, social work, human services, and youth development.
- Minimum of two years of experience in youth education/programming: elementary/secondary education, youth development, out of school time programming, pre-social work, or child related field.
- Ability to implement program plans appropriate for meeting the educational and personal development needs of at-risk youth.
- Ability to implement evaluation tools to accurately measure the results achieved by youth participation in the program.
- Ability to interact with parents, teachers, and other professionals to identify, and provide for the needs of youth with regards to social services, recreational/cultural activities, and education.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
Minimum Competencies:
- Working knowledge of basic internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
- Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).
- Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
Licensing and Other Requirements:
Valid identification and reliable transportation.
Ability to pass State of Michigan Child Care Background Check
Travel Requirements:
Ability to travel to various sites.
