What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Food Service Aide position at Wayne-metropolitan Community Action Agency?
Scope:
Responsible for monitoring and assisting Meet Up and Eat Up sites across Wayne county; providing on-site technical assistance on Michigan Department of Education standards for summer meals; ensuring food pattern requirements are met at meal service times; and actively engaging all youth and family participants to encourage a positive eating environment.
Essential Functions
- Attend all mandatory SFSP training prior to facilitating food service activities, and will strive to meet or exceed state and federal standards.
- Observe and ensure meals served are in compliance under Michigan Department of Education procedures.
- Train on-site staff on performing meal counts and other mandatory record keeping tasks.
- Follow and adhere to all local and state food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Participate in Food Team meetings and all staff meetings.
- Complete the Wayne Metro Vehicle Mileage Log form when using agency vehicle.
- Alert the facilities manager to any problems with the company vehicle and any need for maintenance.
- Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff, and a willingness to work with others.
- Perform work in a professional manner that upholds Wayne Metro’s policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Food Service Operator: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions while driving a company van. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderately loud when in the field. The employee is constantly required to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, lift and or move (up to 50 pounds), stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma/general education degree (GED) OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a related field.
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, adults, and staff.
- Ability to work a staggered and flexible schedule.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
Minimum Competencies:
- Working knowledge of basic internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
- Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).
- Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
Licensing and Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Successful completion of routine background checks which includes verification of satisfactory driving record (no more than three (3) current points), criminal history, and references.
Travel Requirements:
- Ability to travel to various sites.
Work Hours: Work to be scheduled Monday through Friday with specific hours to be determined by program needs.
