What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1st Shift Assembly Operator position at Wayne Metals LLC?
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the operation of production equipment to produce quality products meeting customer specifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform manual drilling operations using hand drills, drill presses, and related tools.
- Assemble steel components according to work instructions, blueprints, or job travelers.
- Measure and verify hole locations, sizes, and part alignment using measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, gauges, etc.).
- Deburr, clean, and prepare parts for next operations.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality specifications.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S and safety standards.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Communicate production issues, defects, or equipment concerns to supervision.
- Meet production and quality goals while maintaining safe work practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support production needs.
- Be able to operate air powered tooling
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate or equivalent training or work experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to safely operate hand tools and basic shop equipment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to read basic blueprints or willingness to learn.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Frequent use of hands for gripping, drilling, and assembly tasks.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conform to all Wayne Metals, LLC environmental policies, programs and procedures.
- Conform to all State of Indiana laws and regulations.
- Report any environmental concerns to Supervisor, Environmental Management Representative, or the Plant manager.
