Job Description
Clinical Educator works with the Education Manager, nursing management, and/or clinical preceptors, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the educational needs of Externs, as well as new and inexperienced RN & LPN staff, and, as necessary, Nursing Assistant employees. Directly supervises novice staff to develop and refine necessary procedural skills, ensure competencies, and improve assessment and care planning skills. Mentors the inexperienced nurse in development of critical thinking skills, prioritization of work, appropriate and complete documentation of assessment findings, professional communication & interactive skills; monitors patient advocacy roles, and models exceptional service excellence. Provides feedback for inclusion in performance appraisals of new employees. Assists in remediation programs to ensure patient safety. Plans and provides educational programs for the staff. Takes an active role in competency validation on various shifts for all staff, as assigned. Participates in providing in-services to staff on new and revised procedures. Maintains the proper records on all students and hospital personnel so that compliance with standards can be ascertained. Reviews and revises programs and content regularly to meet educational needs of students, staff, and patients.
Job Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania;
- MSN or Master’s in Nursing Education preferred;
- BSN (or significant work towards degree) required;
- Minimum of five (5) years of recent clinical experience required;
- Critical Care background preferred/helpful;
- Previous clinical instruction/background in clinical nursing education necessary;
- Supervisory experience desirable;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Excellent computer skills and electronic documentation ability;
- Must be able to work competently with excellent clinical skills.
- Excellent role model in the clinical area and as a professional;
- Demonstrated high regard for patient safety initiatives;
- BLS Instructorship required within 6 months of hire.
