The Medical Assistant (MA) supports providers and nursing staff in the OB clinic by assisting with the efficient and safe delivery of patient care. Responsibilities include preparing patients for visits, obtaining and documenting vital signs and other appropriate clinical information, reviewing and updating medication and allergy information, preparing exam rooms, and assisting providers with examinations and procedures within the MA's scope of practice. The MA may also assist with specimen collection and processing, point-of-care testing, patient education and instructions as directed, scheduling and coordinating follow-up care, maintaining supplies and equipment, cleaning and stocking patient care areas, and completing appropriate documentation in the medical record. The MA is expected to maintain patient confidentiality, follow infectioncontrol and safety procedures, communicate effectively with patients and the healthcare team, and promptly report patient concerns or abnormal findings to the appropriate licensed clinical staff or provider.
