PARAPROFESSIONAL
Qualifications
Paraprofessionals must be considered Highly Qualified by meeting one or more of the criteria listed below :
a. Passed WorkKeys Test
b. Have an Associate's Degree or higher
c. Passed the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC)
Ability to interface well with students, parents and staff.
Prior experience working in a school setting preferred.
Ability to maintain professional conduct at all times.
Responsibilities
The Paraprofessional supports social, behavioral and academic plans designed by core team members in all settings.
The Paraprofessional assists with the mechanics of large group operation by performing such functions as calling roll, collecting assignments, correcting tests, etc. as assigned by the Teacher.
The Paraprofessional supervises small groups of students as the Teacher directs in skill development, testing, assignments, projects, etc.
Specific Duties
Assist in the reinforcement of classroom instruction by overseeing the exercises which apply to that instruction.
Compile resource materials, as directed, to be used by students.
Assist individual students, as directed, with make-up work following absence.
Operate audio-visual equipment as requested by Teacher.
Notify the Teacher of any unusual situations or potential problems encountered in the course of performing assigned duties.
Maintain confidentiality when dealing with parents of students; refer all inquiries about student progress, behavior, etc. to the Teacher.
Keep a professional attitude when working with students; maintain objectivity by distributing time as equally as possible among individuals within a group.
Maintain professional working relationships with students and staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned by Teacher, Principal or designee.
