Role and Responsibilities
- Coach staff in best practices and ELA strategies.
- Use data from standardized tests, standards based projects, and iReady to identify Title I eligible at-risk students in ELA.
- Assist in implementing ELA programs that will support the delivery and continuous monitoring of effective high impact ELAinstruction throughout the school.
- Serve as a resource for classroom teachers in identifying appropriate instructional strategies to improve student achievement in ELA classrooms.
- Monitor student academic achievement.
- Attend training sessions as directed.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the Common Core curriculum standards in English, Science, Math and Social Studies.
- Collaborate with all departments to implement the comprehensive plan.
- Maintain required data on individual student progress in reading and writing and disseminate data to district and school administrators, teachers, and parents at regular intervals as well as program evaluations.
- Coordinate meetings providing academic initiative information, research, resources, sharing of best practices and program needs.
- Facilitate communication among program staff and inform program administrators of available resources, events, and opportunities within the district.
- Coordinate and develop a website that includes curriculum, services, and programs that support the development of reading and writing skills.
- Participate in and contribute to local activities as related to expansion of program quality, site development and professional development in the area of numeracy development.
- Attend local professional development meetings and activities as needed.
- Keep abreast of professional trends and developments related to the use of assessments data for instructional decision-making and use knowledge to update presentation materials, products and resources.
- Prepare reports as requested.
- Meet with department teams to review assessment data and work on program evaluations.
- Work with the Curriculum Director and Bilingual Coordinator to plan and provide staff development training related to ELA programming.
- Perform all other duties assigned by Coaching Leader, Building Principal, Curriculum Director and / or Superintendent.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Minimum of Bachelor's degree from an accredited collegiate institute.
Master's degree in ELA preferred.
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with ELA (BA) endorsement.
Must have experience teaching 6-12 grade students in the last 3 years.
Job Summary
The Secondary ELA Instructional Coach is a certified teacher who has expertise in instructional strategies and best practices as they relate to the ELA content area. The ELA Instructional Coach has knowledge and skills in strategies for teaching content to students in grades 6-12. This person will model lessons, coach staff and collaborate with classroom teachers to implement effective ELA instructional strategies to accommodate the academic needs of all learners.

Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the requirements of the district and state law.
