Core Responsibilities
- Instruction & Strategy: Teach basketball rules, offensive/defensive strategies, and individual skill sets. Develop physical conditioning programs to ensure athletes are healthy and agile.
- Student Supervision: Monitor student-athletes before, during, and after all practices, games, and team travel to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Game-Day Operations: Prepare scouting reports, manage in-game substitutions and timeouts, and coordinate logistics like travel itineraries and meals.
- Program Administration: Assist the Head Coach or Athletic Director by maintaining equipment inventories, tracking player statistics, and submitting required eligibility and academic paperwork on time.
- Role Modeling: Foster good sportsmanship, teamwork, and responsible behavior on and off the court.
- Knowledge & Experience: Thorough understanding of basketball rules and proven experience playing or coaching the sport.
- Certifications: Current CPR and First Aid certifications are typically mandatory.
- Compliance: Must be willing to pass background checks and complete district, state (such as the NC High School Athletic Association), or NFHS coaching education courses.
- Availability: High flexibility is required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays for games and tournaments.
