Guidance Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Kentucky certification in school counseling with Master’s degree or above.
- Minimum of five years successful teaching experience.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
REPORTS TO: Principal
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the philosophy and vision of the Wayne County School District.
- Counsels with students, individually and in small groups.
- Provides prevention programs through classroom/school-wide guidance activities.
- Consults with teacher and parents about student needs, concerns and academic issues.
- Collaborates with school staff and community representatives in assessing student needs and utilizing the data to plan and evaluate the guidance program.
- Serves as a resource person on the Special Education Admissions and Release Committee when appropriate.
- Refers student to the proper authorities for child abuse or neglect when suspicion exists and provides support services to those students as needed.
- Assists or serves as the coordinator of testing and interprets test data to teachers and parents as needed.
- Assists new students with orientation and acclimation to their new school environment.
- Coordinates student scheduling in a manner that ensures the academic needs of students are met.
