About the role
The Bookkeeper/Membership Secretary of the Wayne County Farm Bureau serves a critical role in supporting the various programming, member interactions, bookkeeping, and membership record keeping of the organization.
Location & Type of Position
This will be a full-time position. Beginning in January 2027, office hours will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (At present, office hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)
This is an in-person, in-office position located in Fairfield. Illinois. Remote or hybrid work is not possible and will not be offered.
How does this role make an impact?
- Perform the bookkeeping, account reconciliations, tax filings, payroll, and other financial transactions for the organization and our Foundation.
- Generate financial reports for management and the board to review.
- Maintain the membership records, perform membership dues transactions, and generate membership reports.
- Provide administrative and clerical support for the association, including filing, typing, internal communications, emails, letters, answering phones, etc.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of the social media accounts for the organization.
- Assist the Manager with the development and execution of member programs.
Do you have what we’re looking for?
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Bookkeeping experience, with a good understanding of accrual accounting. Candidates must complete an accounting exam as part of the interview process.
- Strong computer skills; proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Teams). Experience with Intuit QuickBooks is also preferred, but it is not required if you have a strong understanding of bookkeeping fundamentals and accounting principles.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks, programs, and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to communicate and work directly with volunteers, members, and organizational colleagues on a variety of topics, programs, and issues.
- Ability to work independently.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding and knowledge of general agricultural topics.
- Be able to work in an office environment and interact with members and the public.
- Reliable transportation is required. Some travel is required for local errands. Occasional travel in southern Illinois for regional programs and annual travel to Chicago for the Illinois Farm Bureau Annual Meeting.
- Ability to lift, move, and/or carry materials up to 30 pounds.
- Occasional flexibility in hours is required to attend Farm Bureau events, meetings, and conferences.
Compensation
$20.00 - $22.50/hour base pay range. The base pay represents the typical starting range of potential salary for this position. Factors used to determine your actual pay include your specific skills, qualifications, and experience. This position qualifies for regular pay raises based on performance.
