Position Description
Duties include but are not limited to interviewing new/recurrent applicants to determine eligibility according to state rules and regulations, completing all required reports and scheduling of appointments.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Interviews public assistance applicants to determine their initial eligibility for a variety of public assistance programs.
- Maintains communication with ongoing public assistance clients to determine their continued eligibility for public assistance.
- Refers clients for other assistance to units in-house or agencies in the community. Ability to determine additional needs of Public Assistance applicants and counsel them in crisis situations.
- Attends hearings and meetings regarding public assistance issues/cases and/or employment issues. Attends workshops, training sessions and conferences as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven customer service experience dealing with the public both in person and over the phone;
- Computer experience with a wide range of software systems and capacity to learn technological systems quickly;
- Problem solving skills and capacity to reason and learn complicated policy, using provided resources and training;
- The successful applicant will have a minimum of 1 year in a position which involves determining eligibility for financial, social services or employment assistance;
- OR qualified candidates will possess verifiable experience and training in working with computers and dealing with the public with a diverse background that meets or exceeds the minimum qualifications listed above.
