Job description:
The Chief Appraiser provides leadership and technical oversight of Wayne County's real estate appraisal program. This position supervises appraisal staff and oversees countywide valuation activities, including sexennial reappraisals, triennial updates, new construction, and valuation appeals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Supervise, assign, and train appraisal staff.
- Plan and oversee sexennial reappraisals, triennial updates, and annual new construction.
- Monitor sales and market trends to ensure accurate and uniform valuations.
- Prepare and present valuation evidence before the Board of Revision (BOR) and Board of Tax Appeals (BTA).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Auditor or Chief Deputy Auditor.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
- 10 years’ experience in real estate, real property appraisal, mass appraisal, or property assessment.
- Supervisory or management experience.
- Experience with Ohio sexennial reappraisals or triennial updates.
- Strong knowledge of Ohio property taxation and real estate valuation.
- Ability to analyze sales and market data and explain valuation concepts clearly.
- Knowledge of CAMA and computerized assessment systems.
- IAAO certification or other professional appraisal designation.
- Experience with an Ohio County Auditor or County Fiscal Office.
- Board of Revision experience.
- Ability to pass a background check
- Valid Ohio driver's license.
