What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tutor (Part-time) position at Wayne Country Day School?
The Wayne Country Day School seeks a committed, skilled, and energetic teacher to join our team for the 2026-27 school year. They will be responsible for tutoring students in Math in alignment with our school’s mission of preparation and formation of students for the world beyond college. The students served could be lower school, middle school, or upper school, with the main emphasis on middle and upper.
The ideal candidate possesses a passion for teaching, a team-oriented approach to collegiality, enthusiasm for creating and implementing an innovative curriculum, strong interpersonal skills, and a deep knowledge of child development.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and implement engaging lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum, philosophy, and mission.
- Provide one-on-one math instruction to students of various ages and abilities with personalized learning plans for each student.
- Communicate regularly with families about curriculum and student progress.
- Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment to enhance student confidence and motivation.
- Utilize and maximize regular professional development opportunities.
- Update curriculum and materials as needed.
- Proctor tests for the Learning Center as needed.
- Participate in the school community, including faculty meetings.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of child development, best practices, and current trends in education
- Experience with diverse instructional strategies
- Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a consistent tutoring schedule
- Ability to integrate technology effectively
Qualifications
- Knowledge of dyslexia, ADHD, other learning differences, and strategies to support neurodiverse students is a strong plus.
- An undergraduate degree is required. A graduate degree in math, education, and/or a relevant discipline is a plus.
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, with a focus on math instruction.
- Salary is dependent on experience.
