Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to join our vibrant educational community. In this vital role, you will work closely with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to support students with diverse learning needs. Your energy and enthusiasm will help create an inclusive environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. You will assist in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs), facilitate communication, and promote positive behavior management strategies. Responsibilities

  • Support students with disabilities by assisting with daily classroom activities, lesson plans, and curriculum development tailored to their individual needs.
  • Implement accommodations and modifications outlined in students’ IEPs to ensure equitable access to learning.
  • Foster a safe, nurturing environment through effective behavior management techniques and classroom management skills.
  • Assist with instructional tasks such as literacy education, math activities, early childhood education, and preschool or toddler care.
  • Use communication skills including American Sign Language (ASL) when appropriate to facilitate understanding and interaction for students with hearing impairments or communication challenges.
  • Collaborate with teachers on lesson planning, curriculum development, and assessment strategies to support students’ academic growth.
  • Provide support for students working with autism, developmental disabilities, or other special needs by implementing specialized interventions and behavior management plans.
  • Help maintain a positive classroom atmosphere by promoting social-emotional development and encouraging peer interactions.
  • Assist in documenting student progress through observations, reports, and maintaining records related to IEP goals and behavioral data.
  • Support the overall well-being of children by providing childcare services when needed within preschool or early childhood settings.

Experience

  • Prior classroom experience working with children in early childhood education, preschool, or childcare settings is highly preferred.
  • Experience working specifically with students with disabilities, including those with autism or developmental disabilities, is desirable.
  • Knowledge of special education practices such as IEP implementation, behavior management techniques, and curriculum adaptation is essential.
  • Familiarity with Deaf education principles and American Sign Language (ASL) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop engaging lesson plans for literacy education, math instruction, and social skills development.
  • Experience in private school environments or Montessori settings can be advantageous but is not required.
  • Strong communication skills combined with patience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for supporting diverse learners are vital for success in this role.
