Back-End Senior Software Engineer, Simulation

You Will

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend services and APIs primarily using C .
• Build and optimize the data pipelines and infrastructure that power Waymo's critical event triage and analysis platforms
• Collaborate closely with front-end engineers, Product Managers, and other engineering teams to define APIs, data models, and system architecture.
• Contribute to system design, architectural decisions, and best practices for backend development within the team.
• Integrate with AI/ML platforms and infrastructure to power intelligent product experiences.
• Monitor, debug, and optimize the performance and reliability of backend systems.
  
  

You Have

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development.
• Proficiency in C and experience with building production-grade services.
• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and best practices.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and lead technical discussions.
  
  

We Prefer

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience with ML frameworks, libraries, and cloud-based platforms
• Experience with Java
• Experience with web front-end development, including TypeScript and Angular
• Experience leveraging AI-powered developer tools to improve software development velocity; experience building or augmenting such tools is a plus.
• Familiarity with Google's internal development tools and infrastructure.
  
  

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Salary Range

$204,000—$259,000 USD
