Waymaker | Land Advisors & Surveyors Texas Hill Country (Boerne, Kerrville, or Fredericksburg area) | Full-Time | $20–$40/hr DOE
About Waymaker
Waymaker is a land surveying and advisory firm built on a simple belief: landowners deserve more than just the facts — they deserve a partner who guides them with clarity, care, and expertise. We serve families, investors, attorneys, and real estate professionals across the Texas Hill Country, helping them make confident decisions about their land.
We are a team that holds each other to a high standard, invests in each other's growth, and takes pride in work that lasts. If you are a proven field leader who loves being outside, leads people well, and takes ownership of your crew's performance — we'd love to meet you.
The Role
The Senior Party Chief leads a Waymaker field crew — translating project priorities into comprehensive field work, maintaining quality and safety standards, and ensuring every assignment is completed with the precision and professionalism Waymaker is known for.
This is a field-first leadership role. You are not directing from a desk — you are present, visible, and active in the work alongside your crew every day. You set the standard by showing up prepared, holding the line on quality, safety, and leading your technicians with clarity and purpose.
What You'll Do
Lead Your Crew
- Manage day-to-day scheduling and deployment of your crew — right people, right place, every day
- Ensure the crew is fully prepared before leaving for the field — correct equipment, clear instructions, site access confirmed
- Adjust assignments in real time as conditions change and communicate updates immediately to leadership
Own Field Quality
- Spend the majority of your time in the field alongside your crew — observing, guiding, and managing work in real time
- Ensure all field work meets Waymaker's accuracy and documentation standards before the crew departs from the project site
- Deliver complete, organized field data and notes back to the office every day — no gaps, no chasing
Lead on Safety
- Model and enforce Waymaker's safety standards at all times — PPE, vehicle operation, and site protocols
- Monitor field conditions and stop work when conditions are unsafe
- Report all incidents and near-misses to the VP of Field Operations the same day — no exceptions
Steward Equipment & Fleet
- Oversee the daily care and condition of your crew's survey equipment and assigned vehicle
- Report damage or maintenance needs immediately
- Coordinate with the office on vehicle maintenance schedules
What We're Looking For
Required
- Minimum 3–5 years of land surveying field experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise a field crew
- Strong working knowledge of total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and data collectors
- Hands-on experience with Trimble GNSS equipment and Trimble robotic total stations
- Valid Texas Driver's License; ability to operate trucks and ATVs
- Clear, direct communication — with your crew, leadership, and property owners
- Strong safety awareness and sound field judgment
- Ownership mindset — you take responsibility for your crew's performance and outcomes
- Ability to work long days or hours when necessary to finish a project
Preferred
- Familiarity with Carlson Survey or CAD-based survey software
- Experience in rural land, ranchland, or Texas Hill Country terrain
What Success Looks Like
You are succeeding when your crew goes out prepared, comes back with complete data, and operates safely every single day. When you are at your best, leadership and office staff have full confidence in what's captured and happening in the field. The technicians on your crew are better at their jobs because of the standard you hold and the mentorship you provide.
If you thrive here, you:
- Lead by example. You don't ask your crew to do anything you wouldn't do yourself. You are in the field, in the work, setting the standard.
- Own your crew's outcomes. When something goes wrong, you address it — you don't pass it along. When something goes right, you give the credit.
- Are obsessed with preparation. No crew leaves underprepared on your watch. The right equipment, the right instructions, and a clear plan — every single day.
- Take safety personally. You don't cut corners, and you don't let your crew cut corners. Every person goes home safe.
- Communicate without being asked. Leadership never has to wonder what's happening in your field. You keep them informed before they have to ask.
- Finish strong. You don't leave a site because it's 4:00 p.m. You own the outcome and put the extra time in to finish the job.
- Embrace technology. From data collectors to time tracking, you don't resist a platform or software change because you don't understand it yet.
- Live the mission and values. You know them, and you exhibit them every single day.
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly pay: $20–$40/hr depending on experience
- Full-time, stable employment with a growing company
- A team that has each other's backs — and means it
- Work that matters: every boundary you set and every crew member you develop leaves a mark on the land and on the people around you
