Senior Data Scientist, Operations Analytics

This is a Boston-based opportunity with a 4-day in-office expectation.

You will join the Operations Analytics team focused on steering Wayfair’s long-term strategic operations. The OA team supports long-term, high-scope, high-complexity and planning and business case questions within operations. We work closely across Operations Research, Network Management, Transportation & Delivery and other teams to ensure continuity between their near and medium term planning objective functions with our future state strategic goals.

What You’ll Do

• Work within a small but high-impact team focused on providing analytical firepower to a number of groups under the operations umbrella, with a focus on Fulfillment, Planning, and Analytics.
• Design and maintain models that drive strategic insight, packaging findings into concise and actionable recommendations, and selling the data story to our cross functional and senior stakeholders.
• Utilize your experience in SQL, python, and spreadsheet modelling to design and build tailored and robust sensitivity analyses that identify and address business value opportunities. Develop tools and dashboards that provide critical insights, enabling data-driven decision-making.
• Work in a fast paced, highly iterative environment that is responsive to the evolving needs of our operations functions and strategies.
• Drive strategic decisions on if, when, and where to open new Fulfillment Centers and Home Delivery Operations nodes, optimizing network speed and cost across a 5 year horizon and across multiple FC functions.
• Drive development of strategic operational improvements within Fulfillment Centers using analytical modelling, from trailer unloading, carton putaway, pick efficiency, large parcel assembly, and more.
  
  

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Operations Research, or a related discipline with a strong academic record.
• Experience in an analytics or data science role, performing quantitative analysis and delivering actionable recommendations from findings.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL, including knowledge of aggregate functions, joins, etc. Hands-on experience and comfortability with Python for data manipulation, analysis, and modeling.
• Fluency in using gen-ai coding tools (e.g., cursor) as a force multiplier on top of strong foundational coding and analytical knowledge base.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience (direct or through consulting) in a logistics, ecommerce, or supply chain organization.
• Ability to synthesize insights from undefined and open ended problem sets and articulate into clear, top-down evidence-backed narratives. Present complex information in a concise and understandable manner.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience building comprehensive and compelling slide decks and white papers.
• Solution-oriented & curious intellectual mindset and curiosity, with a passion for continuous learning and problem-solving.
• Strategic thinker, able to provide direction and support to the team in setting clear project goals, managing the execution of projects that align with business objectives.
• Experience with or knowledge of supply chain and logistics concepts is a strong plus.
  
  

Wayfair's In-Office Policy

All Boston-based interns, co-ops, and corporate employees will be in office in a hybrid capacity. Employees will work in the office on designated days, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and work remotely the other 2 days of the week.
