Job Description

Position Summary: The Credit Card Analyst is responsible for performing the reconciliation activities for all card types, including reconciling the Wawa Credit Card value proposition, investigation of all card variances, and analyses and reporting on all card processing activities. These activities will include researching and resolving all customer related issues and cash flow variances, and providing operational support for all card types. This individual will be responsible for developing our approach to minimizing chargeback losses, as well as driving the implementation of processes that will minimize our losses as rules/regulations continue to change. In addition, the Credit Card Analyst will work with business partners, including but not limited to Loss Prevention, to identify fraud and develop strategies to minimize losses.

Principal Duties

  • Responsible for developing Wawa’s approach to minimizing chargeback losses, as well as driving the implementation of processes that will minimize Wawa’s losses as rules/regulations continue to change. Responsible for the dispute and chargeback research and response processes for all payment tenders. Work with the Financial Services Coordinator and Treasury Specialist on a daily basis to assess case load and prioritize work effort. Work with business partners, including but not limited to Loss Prevention, to identify fraud and develop strategies to minimize losses. Analyze all payment channels, i.e., card not present and pay at the pump, and work directly with Loss Prevention, acquirer and issuers, if needed, to develop best research and response processes to minimize fraud losses. Remain current with respect to changes to the networks’ Rules and Regulations and adjust processes, as needed. Track any chargeback related trends and perform root cause analysis to troubleshoot issues and resolve problems. Develop dispute and chargeback reporting and assist in budgeting process, as needed.
  • Analyze the performance of all promotional efforts to support the Wawa Credit Card, including but not limited to, marketing spend, interchange fees expense and various statistical data that are reported to management.
  • Perform daily and monthly reconciliation duties for the Wawa Credit Card and other payment tenders, as necessary. Investigate variances and work with other business partners to identify root cause of any variances and escalates issues, as needed. Prepare accounting journal entries to support the reconciliation of the sales and interchange fee processes. Complete the period-end and year-end accounting closings activities. Ensure the timely and accurate completion of standard and miscellaneous accruals, journal entries and interfaces.
  • Assist the Retail Financial Services Analyst in working cross functionally with IT and other internal/external partners on special projects, including, but not limited to, assisting in card related initiatives by validating compliance to card association regulations and reviewing impact on card reconciliation and reporting.
  • Assist the Retail Financial Services Analyst in developing the functional specifications for SAP BW reporting and lead the testing of all new card related reporting. Ensure that ongoing card data inputs to support SAP BW reporting are completed timely and accurately. Assist IT with troubleshooting any transmission issues. Identify processing system errors and initiate corrective action for the business by coordinating with IT and our “acquirer” through to resolution.
  • Assist in analyzing monthly card fee variance between budget and actual. Analyze interchange pricing changes and their impact on the budget for card fees related to assigned payment tenders. Provide input on any variances to the Planning & Analysis department for the card fee reforecast. Analyze any interchange pricing changes so impact can be quantified to understand business impact.
  • Assist the Store Financial Services Manager with the card fee budgeting process by compiling the necessary data to support the budgeting model
  • Provide Store Operations with direction as to appropriate credit and debit card policies and procedures and provide guidance on mishandling of card initiated incidents. Create reporting for senior management and Store Operations regarding card sales, transaction volumes, acceptance rates by card type, fees, chargebacks, manually entered transactions and fraudulent incidents.
  • Participate in the Treasury Department’s cross training program so that all critical activities are adequately supported. Specifically, provide backup support to Retail Financial Services Analyst by performing all card reconciliation processes in his/her absence.
  • Perform special projects or other functions as assigned by Treasury management team.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance preferred
  • Three to five years of experience in a an analyst position
  • Strong Excel skills (ability to perform V Lookups and create complex formulas in order to organize and analyze data). Proficient in spreadsheet based analytical tools and managing large databases
  • Strong SAP and BW skills preferred
