Job Description

Job Title: Compensation Specialist

Location: Corporate

Department: People Team

Job Summary: The Compensation Specialist is responsible for leading the design, and advanced modeling and data visualization of compensation plans, ensuring compliments to the Total Rewards philosophy They are responsible for managing the administration and support of all Compensation plans under Total Rewards and to conduct performance analysis to measure the effectiveness of the plans.

Principal Duties

  • Lead, design and build compensation plan models utilizing strong analytical skill-set and financial business acumen to help inform changes in support of the Total Rewards strategy.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed and accurate ad-hoc compensation research and studies for Total Rewards Team leadership. Oversee the delivery of timely and accurate monthly and ad-hoc detailed analysis and reporting on compensation programs for management indicating program status.
  • Share complex data results in a format that is easily understandable for the business partner in order to influence the planning and development of compensation programs.
  • Design, implement and administer compensation programs; build new program processes, in collaboration with all key stakeholders, as well as modeling program change impacts. Oversee execution of compensation programs and ensure communications are aligned with the broader business.
  • Lead the corporate compensation plan administration and benchmark process for all positions up through the Manager level. Work with hiring managers, People Team Business Partners and the Talent Acquisition team to communicate position level and pay ranges.
  • Lead annual budgeting process for all compensation plans; partner with Finance and Operations to establish the labor budget for Store Operations.
  • Oversee and support administration of all compensation plans, including merit and bonus processes. Lead overall program communications.
  • Provide subject matter expertise related to technology, vendors and the compensation plans to optimize all processes. Identify opportunities to change business processes, integrating them into the technology and facilitating their implementation, develop reporting, provide analyses; work cross-functionally to provide system/process documentation and training.
  • Participate in market competitive analysis of current compensation programs. Support annual compensation survey submissions and external reference points within Wawa’s benchmarking system.
  • Assist all necessary activities relative to Wawa’s Store Operations compensation plans, including base, store bonus and annual merit plans, including the compensation processing that impacts weekly and monthly special compensation agreements and store bonus calculations.
  • Keep current on environmental, legal and regulatory factors that impact compensation practices, as well as trends in total rewards strategies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, HR, or related field preferred
  • 8 years of compensation related experience
  • Knowledge of business applications and reporting software
  • Financial Business Acumen
  • Workday experience preferred
  • Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office Suites and working knowledge of HR information systems
  • Understanding of advanced analytics, techniques and concepts
  • Experience with BI and visualization tools preferred
