Paving Dry Side Operator-3rd Shift

Position Summary:

Wausau Tile is seeking a dedicated, hardworking, and safety-conscious Hess Dry Side Operator to join our team. This position is responsible for operating production machines used in the manufacturing of pavers, ensuring product quality, and performing routine maintenance and cleaning tasks. The operator will be tasked with overseeing the production process, adjusting machinery as needed, and ensuring the efficiency and smooth operation of the equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Setup & Start-Up:

• Review the production schedule and associated paperwork to verify the proper setup of production machines.
• Follow standardized start-up procedures, including preventative maintenance and machine adjustments, to ensure smooth operation.

Production Monitoring & Quality Control:

• Monitor the production process and make necessary adjustments to ensure consistent, high-quality product output.
• Operate and manage the production of pavers using various inter-connected specialized production equipment such as:
  • Batch plants
  • Back and face mix feeders
  • Additive dispensers
  • Color batchers
  • Cycle times
  • QC inspection stations
  • Kiln curing time
  • Paver extraction
  • In-line shot blasters
  • Palletizers
• Ensure that all quality standards are met during production, conducting regular quality checks.

Clean-Up & Maintenance:

• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning tasks as needed to keep production equipment in optimal working condition.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment at all times.

Leadership & Supervision:

• Act as the primary controller of all machine functions and oversee associated personnel.
• Train, lead, and supervise team members to ensure proper machine operation, adherence to safety protocols, and adherence to quality standards.

Problem-Solving & Communication:

• Evaluate mechanical issues, develop solutions, and implement fixes to maintain production efficiency.
• Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills to communicate effectively with the team and other departments.
• React to complex machine data and make adjustments to maintain consistent product quality.

Required Competencies & Skills:

• High level of computer literacy and the ability to understand and react to complex machine data.
• Strong mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and problem-solving.
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced production environment.
• Ability to execute and maintain quality standards consistently.
• Strong written and oral communication skills to lead the team and interact with other departments.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs or more as required.
• Repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, fingers, knees, back, shoulders, and neck.
• Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, and other equipment.
