What are the responsibilities and job description for the School District Nurse position at Waukesha School District?
This nurse will work as part of a team of nurses who train and supervise staff members who provide health room, health screening, or specialized health services, and will assist students to minimize absences due to illness while creating a climate of optimal health, safety, and well-being in district schools. All grade levels.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
• Coordinates emergency nursing services.
• Provides continuity of care through consistent documentation that reflects nursing processes.
• Serves as a resource to teachers with regard to the specific health problems of individual students.
• Participate as the health specialist on the IEP team to assess children with special health care needs.
• Trains, delegates, and supervises teachers and support staff to provide special health care procedures within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act.
• Promotes and assists in the control of vaccine preventable diseases through record surveillance and preventative immunization programs.
• Works in cooperation with the Waukesha County Public Health Division in providing early detection, surveillance, reporting and follow-up of communicable diseases.
• Assists principals with the overall coordination of health services and in the recruiting and hiring of health room/clerical assistants.
• Provides training for and assists with supervision of health room/clerical assistants.
• Supervises maintenance of health room records and records related to school-based services.
• Assures that health room supplies are ordered and available in each school.
• Maintains client confidentiality within the legal, regulatory and ethical parameters of health and education.
• Maintains timely communication with principals, teachers, other school personnel, and parent/guardians.
• Train and support unlicenced assistant staff in meeting the health needs of students.
• Serves on district-wide committees that may impact the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school district.
• Serves as a liaison between the home, school and community.
• Completes other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Current Registered Nurse License required
• Minimum three (3) years experience
• Bachelors in Nursing
