Waukegan Steel is a structural steel fabricator serving the Chicagoland area. Our team has worked on various projects throughout the city including, Soldier Field, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Navy Pier, Willis Tower, Northwestern Welsh-Ryan Arena, Washington/Wabash CTA Platform, Ravinia Festival, and Lincoln Park Zoo. We are seeking a talented and dynamic Accountant to support the financial accounting and reporting function of Waukegan Steel LLC.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform month end close activities, including preparation of journal entries and detailed account analyses and reconciliations
- Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including consolidated financial statements and support schedules
- Perform general ledger reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts and investigate and resolve variances in a timely manner.
- Prepare bank reconciliations and intercompany reconciliations.
- Perform work in process analysis and related procedures to ensure revenue recognition under percentage of completion accounting is accurate and compliant
- Perform routine inventory reconciliations and support periodic physical inventory counts, as applicable
- Assist with preparation of monthly projections, quarterly forecasts, and the Annual Operating Plan
- Support accounting and reporting requirements from the parent company, NMLP Corporate
- Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives related to accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency
- Support account receivables and account payables activities, as applicable to the role
- Complete other ad hoc accounting and reporting requests as needed
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and up-to-date awareness of technical accounting guidance
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivots, lookups, formulas, and data analysis tools
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Organized, efficient, and process-oriented
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate across functions
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business (accounting concentration required if degree is not in accounting)
- 3 years of accounting experience preferably in the construction industry, including responsibility for closing the books. Construction industry experience is preferred but not required.
- Foundation ERP system experience preferred but not required.
