Description:
Assist in the planning, organization, implementation, and oversight of daily schedule of activities for youth in both indoor and outdoor after school recreational settings.
Duties:
- Provide direct leadership and supervision to assigned BASE (Before & After School) programs and services.
- Provide developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of the participants.
- Implement activities in program setting according to established schedule.
- Assist in the development and implementation of goals and objectives specific to area of responsibility.
- Assist in the evaluation of programs and services in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Participate with program participants in scheduled daily activities.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of reports and records regarding program participants, programs, and services.
- Maintain areas in a clean, organized, and neat manner.
- Accompany program participants on field trips.
- May transport supplies using a park district vehicle.
- Assist with the purchase, distribution, and maintenance of proper inventory of all supplies and materials.
- Establish cooperative working relationships with co-workers and parents.
- Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions.
- Conduct self-according to the policies and procedures established by the park district.
- Wear assigned uniforms while on duty.
- Participate in park district Safety and Training Program to ensure that the work performed and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.
Qualifications
Age:
- 16 years and older.
Education:
- Junior in high school or higher grade level.
- High school diploma preferred.
- Some college desired.
Experience:
- Working with youth.
- Supervision of groups of youth in a recreational setting preferred.
Knowledge:
- General knowledge of recreation, parks, and leisure service field.
- General knowledge of day camp and after-school programs and services.
- General knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for youth in a recreational environment.
License / Certification:
- Valid driver’s license required for programs including transportation, preferred if not including transportation.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one year.
Hours:
- Monday - Friday morning hours from 6:45am -9:00am with some additional hours as needed.
- Hours may vary depending on program needs.
