Groundskeeper / Maintenance

Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and energetic Groundskeeper / Maintenance professional to maintain the beauty, safety, and functionality of our outdoor spaces. In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring that landscapes are lush, well-kept, and inviting while performing routine maintenance tasks to keep all grounds equipment and facilities in excellent condition. Your enthusiasm and attention to detail will help create a welcoming environment that reflects our commitment to quality and excellence.

Duties

• Perform landscape maintenance including mowing, trimming, pruning, and planting to keep outdoor areas vibrant and healthy.
• Mow grass weekly (or twice if needed) to a height of 2.5", ensuring it does not exceed 5".
• Operate hand tools and power tools safely for tasks such as edging, aerating, and debris removal
• Conduct lawn care activities like fertilizing, aerating, and over-seeding to promote healthy turf growth, as needed
• Assist with gardening tasks such as planting flowers, shrubs, and trees while adhering to horticultural best practices, as needed
• Perform routine maintenance on grounds equipment and facilities to ensure safety and optimal operation
• Support landscaping projects by installing new features or enhancing existing outdoor spaces with creative touches
• Debris Cleanup: Remove natural debris and maintain a tidy appearance at all service locations.
• Equipment Care: Conduct visual inspections before use and record basic maintenance in a service log.

Service Locations:

• ​Harwood Park: Including ball fields and the fenced water tower area.
• ​Della Bayle Park: Located at the corner of North and Raun St.
• ​Main Street: Grass strips at the Borough Office and the Wattsburg Hose Company.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in landscape maintenance, gardening or groundskeeping is preferred but not required, will train; enthusiasm for outdoor work is essential
• Ability to operate hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruners, as well as power tools like trimmers and blowers safely
• Familiarity with gardening techniques and plant care to support healthy growth of various flora
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow safety procedures during all maintenance activities and utilize Borough-provided safety gear
• Maintain regular communication with the Parks and Recreation Department Head.
• ​Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of service dates, times, and repairs.
• ​Submit all receipts for pre-approved purchases and maintain mileage logs for reimbursement.
• Excellent physical stamina for outdoor work in various weather conditions including standing, bending, lifting, and walking for extended periods
• Keys provided for site access must be returned at the end of the season.
