Department Summary: RADIAN’s Engineering Department located across three locations (Lafayette IN, Pearl MS, and Knoxville TN) is responsible for researching, designing, developing, and supporting new and sustaining products, instruments, systems, software and services providing solutions for applications at Electric Utilities, Meter Manufacturers, and Laboratories across the globe.
Position Summary: The Mechanical Engineering Technician supports the design, development, testing, and production of utility meter testing equipment and energy measurement systems. This role works closely with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and production teams to ensure RADIAN’s products meet stringent accuracy, quality, and reliability standards required by utilities, manufacturers, and national laboratories.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in design and development of mechanical components and assemblies for test systems
- Prepare and support 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, and bills of materials
- Build, assemble, and test prototypes and production units, documenting test data
- Conduct mechanical inspections, tolerance checks, and environmental stress tests
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for design or production issues
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing)
- Maintain accurate documentation to support product lifecycle and regulatory compliance
- Other duties as assigned
Education: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- Educated in the use of CAD software (SolidWorks or similar)
- Hands-on with assembly, measurement, and troubleshooting
- Preparing 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings
- Understanding of design-for-manufacturability
- Writing assembly instructions, test reports, or inspection records
Knowledge of:
- Mechanical systems, materials, manufacturing methods, and GD&T
- ISO 9001 product development environment
- Machining, sheet metal, and injection molding fundamentals
- Project Management practices & methodologies
Skilled at:
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team-based environment.
- Meeting deadlines without compromising quality & accuracy
- Build test fixtures and conduct tests
