The Financial Controller will lead day-to-day accounting functions, direct the preparation of financial statements, and drive continuous improvement in financial processes within a dynamic and fast-paced construction environment.
Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversee the company’s financial operations, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior leadership, providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations.
- Partner with project managers and department leaders to track project costs, revenues, and profitability.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of tax filings, including sales tax, property tax, and other regulatory requirements.
- Analyze financial data, identify variances, and implement corrective actions where needed.
- Drive process improvements and support financial systems optimization.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional development and accountability.
- Lead special projects and support executive initiatives as required.
- Partner with other departments, like Human Resources and Operations, on shared projects and processes
- Coordinate external and internal audits and liaise with audit team and any regulatory agencies as may be required
- Stay current with changes in accounting standards and regulations.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Proven ability to lead financial operations and manage accounting functions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make informed decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a strong commitment to accuracy in financial reporting.
- Skilled in time management, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Spectrum, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic cnrironment
Education : Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience Required
- CPA or CMA designation.
- Minimum of 5-8 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction or related industries.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting and internal controls
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
- All work is performed in the office environment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
- Able to work 40 hours per week, overtime as required, and night shift if needed.
- May need to travel to divisions for meetings or accounting related activities.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch when maneuvering the office environment
- Listen and communicate using both verbal and written feedback. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Maintain a high level of consistent cognitive function.
- Perform consistent keyboarding/computer use in a typical office environment for extended periods of time up to 8 hours per day
