POSITION SUMMARY: The Watson Chapel School District (WCSD) is seeking exceptional applications for Security Director and School Resource Officer. The Director will provide strategic leadership and an armed presence to the overall WCSD Safety and Security Team. In addition, an ideal candidate should be committed to high standards for safety and security procedures that aligns with WCSD’s mission, vision, and core values.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Director of Security is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and execution of all safety and security operations for the organization. This individual will oversee the security team, implement and monitor security protocols, and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws. The Director will also foster positive relationships with students, staff, and the community to promote a safe and supportive learning environment. The director’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: ? Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive security strategies, policies, and procedures. ? Oversee and supervise all security personnel, ensuring proper training, certification, and performance. ? Serve as the liaison between the organization and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. ? Ensure physical security of all facilities, including surveillance systems, access control, emergency response, and threat assessment. ? Lead investigations of all security incidents and prepare detailed incident reports. ? Collaborate with school administrators and manage emergency and crisis response plans. ? Serve as the district’s primary point of contact for threat assessments and crisis intervention teams. ? Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential vulnerabilities. ? Develop and manage departmental budgets and resource allocation. ? Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. ? Assist with the implementation of emergency drills across all schools. ? Provide security oversight for extracurricular events and activities as assigned by the Superintendent or designee. ? Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
2 COMPETENCIES: ? Comprehensive knowledge of state and local policies and procedures regarding the administration of security/ school safety programs. ? Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws and regulations. ? Comprehensive knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations. ? Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and to develop meaningful reports from them. ? Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing. ? Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: ? Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or a related field (Masters Preferred). ? Has experience in law enforcement or corporate security management. ? A current police certification is required or must be obtained and maintained in accordance with state law upon hiring. ? Strong understanding of security operations, emergency management, and law enforcement procedures within a public-school environment. ? Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills. ? Proficient in using security systems and technology (CCTV, access control, etc.). ? Ability to work irregular hours or be on-call for emergency situations. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: ? Must meet all requirements to be a School Resource Officer pursuant to Arkansas law (including, without limitation, Ark. Code Ann. 17-40-337). ? Prior experience as a sworn police officer or with a security/law enforcement agency. ? Must successfully pass a psychological exam. ? Knowledge of school or institutional security operations. ? Experience with cybersecurity coordination a plus. COMPUTER SKILLS: ? Experience with Windows Server OS, Google Workspace, and familiarity with video surveillance and access control systems. PROBLEM SOLVING and SYSTEM THINKING: ? Understands how various systems and departments interact to achieve district goals. ? Makes decisions using data and technology. ? Identifies and prioritizes mission-critical issues with alignment of people, time and resources. ? Offer innovative solutions to seemingly intractable challenges.
