POSITION OVERVIEW: Watonwan County Human Services is seeking a motivated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Children’s Mental Health Case Manager. This position is a vital part of our efforts to support children with serious mental illness and their families by improving access to essential services and promoting overall wellness in our community. Under direction, the Children’s Mental Health Case Manager will provide outreach, case management, and care coordination to help children and their families access medical, social, educational, financial, and mental health services. This role plays a key part in ensuring that individuals with complex needs receive integrated, person-centered care.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide case management services to children with serious mental illness and their families, ensuring continuity and coordination of care.
• Assist clients in accessing necessary community resources, including healthcare, housing, education, and financial supports.
• Maintain accurate documentation, case notes, and required reporting in compliance with agency and state guidelines.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, families, and community partners to promote client-centered outcomes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of interviewing and recording in social work/case manager and the ability to apply them.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention, adoption services, family systems and casework service.
• Knowledge of individual and group behavior.
• Knowledge of social casework objectives, principles, and methods.
• Knowledge of social-economic factors, which promote stable family life and understanding of the elements, which affect family security.
• Knowledge of the principles of community organization.
• Knowledge of physical and mental illnesses.
• Knowledge of social welfare research methods.
• Knowledge of family systems and dynamics.
• Ability to effectively apply casework knowledge and skills.
• Working ability to work constructively within an agency in the community setting and in effectively utilizing appropriate resources and services.
• Ability to work constructively in the development and coordination of community resources to meet special needs.
• Ability to manage time productively.
• Ability to prioritize caseloads.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients and co-workers.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with attorneys, co-workers, clients, court personnel, human services staff, and personnel from other organizations.
• Ability to work under supervision but ordinarily proceeds on own initiative and carries work out to completion independently; ability to also work as a team member.
• Skill in interacting with people with diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds; people with mental and physical abilities; and people in stressful situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in social work, psychology, sociology or closely related field. OR A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in any field and one year of experience as a social worker or case manager in a public or private social services agency.

A valid Minnesota driver's license and reliable transportation may be required.

EXAMINATION PROCESS: The examination will consist of a rating of training and experience based on the information you provide in your application and your responses to the supplemental questions included in the application process. Any experience claimed in your answers to the supplemental questions but not included in the Work Experience section of you application will not be credited.
