Job Summary
Drives a transit truck to transport concrete block, brick, bagged concrete products and other various construction related warehouse products. Must abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely. Consistent and reliable attendance required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but is not limited to, the following:
Performs daily pre and post-trip safety check on the truck and equipment to assure they are in a safe working condition. Documents any maintenance that may be required. Maintains mileage reports and accurate logbooks to meet DOT criteria.
Transports and maintains condition of any of the concrete block, brick, or warehouse products as part of the company inventory that can be safely hauled on assigned vehicle. May transport product to an affiliated company and/or pick up product from an affiliated company.
Verifies product delivery loads matches the load tickets. In some cases, may be required to assist in loading product or making adjustments as needed, by lift truck or by hand.
Follow guidelines and instructions by dispatch personnel.
Handles pickup up of materials left over at job site and return to plant. Documents returns on credit forms and submit to office.
Tarps and secures loads to comply with state, federal and local laws and company safety policy. At the destination site, removes tarp and securings. Unloads using the boom in the area requested by the customer. May unload by hand if necessary, according to company safety policies and procedures.
May drive a Transit Mixer for Ready Mix—an affiliated company. Drives truck to designated job site for unloading. Assembles concrete chute and attaches chute to the back of the truck. Controls appropriate levers on truck to discharge concrete according to specifications from the contactor into a wheelbarrow or other conveying container or directly into are to be poured with concrete.
Assists in other areas-repair/maintenance in the plant area when the workload is light, including, yard cleanup, help in block plant, and/or drive other equipment for affiliated companies, if qualified.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and
- 6 months previous commercial truck driving experience;
- or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must have a valid Commercial Drivers License (Class A minimum) and be insurable under the company insurance program.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must meet the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical requirements and carry a physical exam card, which is to be kept current according to DOT guidelines.
- Ability to perform mathematical tasks and operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Must learn quantities per cubes of block and warehouse materials.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
