- The Rehab Technician (CNA) is a dual-role position that combines Rehab Aide and Patient Transporter responsibilities within a skilled nursing or rehabilitation facility. This role supports the Rehabilitation Department by assisting therapists and safely transporting residents to and from therapy sessions.
- The Rehab Technician ensures safe, efficient resident transport, helps maintain therapy operations, and contributes to high-quality patient care. All responsibilities are performed in compliance with New York State regulations and facility policies.
- Assist Physical Therapists (PT), Occupational Therapists (OT), and Speech Therapists (SLP) with treatment setup and cleanup
- Prepare therapy equipment, treatment areas, and supplies for daily rehab sessions
- Support residents during non-skilled therapy activities under therapist supervision
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the rehab gym and treatment areas
- Observe and report resident status, concerns, or changes to therapy staff
- Perform infection control procedures and sanitize rehab equipment
- Safely transport residents via wheelchair or mobility devices within the facility
- Escort residents to and from therapy appointments, nursing units, and designated areas
- Ensure residents are properly positioned and secured during transport
- Coordinate with nursing and rehab staff regarding therapy schedules and transport needs
- Follow all safe patient handling guidelines, including use of gait belts and proper body mechanics
Requirements
- Required: Active CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification – New York State
- Previous experience as a Rehab Aide, Patient Transporter, or CNA preferred
- Knowledge of patient transport, mobility assistance, and safety protocols
- Strong communication and teamwork skills in a healthcare setting
- Energetic, enthusiastic, committed, & passionate about quality care
- Genuinely interested in helping ill, injured, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, & sometimes challenging residents
- Patience, a cheerful disposition, & willingness to assist any residents & co-workers
- Excellent communication, customer service, & organization skills
- Trusted to work independently & in a team environment
- Able to work well under pressure, flexible, & will work harmoniously with all staff
- Covid-19 vaccinations are encouraged but NOT MANDATED; we continue to offer COVID-19 vaccination based on eligibility guidance from CDC
