Position Summary
The Mortgage Underwriter I is responsible for reviewing and assessing residential mortgage loan applications to ensure adherence to established underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and the Banks policy. This role will evaluate borrower qualifications, analyze financial documentation, and work with the Loan Officer to determine the overall risk associated with each loan decision. The Mortgage Underwriter I will work with Loan Officers and other origination staff to facilitate timely approvals while maintaining sound credit practices, compliance, and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Review Mortgage and Home Equity application documentation for accuracy
Analyze borrowers employment history, financials, credit reports, asset statements, liabilities, etc. to determine eligibility for financing
Underwrite loans in accordance with Bank Policy, State and Federal laws and regulations, and any other guidance issued by partner organizations of WSB
Identify and communicate application deficiencies to the Loan Officers
Maintain high level of service and professionalism both internally with coworkers and externally with customers
Monitor personal pipeline to ensure files are moving timely and efficiently
Perform other duties as assigned.
