The Opportunity

At Watershed, analysts are core members of the team, conducting research, developing communications and analyzing data.

Analysts’ day-to-day work varies by project, but responsibilities include:

  • Work collaboratively with senior leaders to draft and refine reports, presentations, briefing material, and other written communications
  • Research and summarize laws and policies to identify limits of and opportunities for change
  • Explore and report on other nations’, states’, and organizations’ approaches to addressing education and workforce issues of relevance for Watershed projects
  • Conduct or participate in interviews with subject matter experts, taking thorough notes and generating insights for the broader team’s use
  • Guide workflow and decision-making through meeting preparation, including the development of agendas and other materials
  • Clean, merge, and analyze quantitative and qualitative datasets to identify trends and insights as needed
  • Work closely with other members of the Watershed team, particularly the analyst cadre, to review work, provide feedback, and exchange ideas
  • Contribute to the growth of a growing organization by shaping its culture and operating decisions

Skills and Characteristics

We are looking for people who are interested in education and its role in society, and who are eager to learn about approaches to improving the United States’ system of public education, from birth to postsecondary to the workforce. At Watershed, we work with a wide variety of clients and are seeking team members with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We encourage people of color, people with disabilities, immigrants, and others with diverse experiences to apply for this role.

 Analysts must have:

  • Strong communication skills. Analysts are able to present complex information and data to a variety of audiences. Communications are clear, articulate, and concise.
  • Data analysis skills. Analysts must have experience using data to test hypotheses, generate insights, and develop narratives. At a minimum, analysts should have basic Excel skills or a willingness to learn these skills on the job.
  • Exceptional attention to detail. Analysts’ results will form the basis for strategy recommendations. Their written content will be used in client materials and public reports. Analysts must be able to check their work, surface and resolve issues, and ultimately produce high quality, error-free material
  • A growth orientation, including curiosity about new ideas and approaches to work, and openness to feedback and to learning new skills.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset that leads to flexibility and creativity in pursuit of goals and resilience in the face of setbacks.
  • A focus on outcomes, with a history of achieving goals despite challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills, including time-management systems and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Collegiality. At Watershed, we work collaboratively, engaging others in decisions, exchanging and challenging one another’s ideas and assumptions, and providing deep feedback on all written material. We expect every member of the team to embrace this approach, and to operate with transparency, integrity, and a sense of humor.
  • A personal commitment to social justice. At Watershed, we believe that systemic, longstanding bias within our nation’s institutions has too often harmed Black and brown Americans, low-income individuals and families, people with disabilities, and immigrants. Our work aims to build systems that serve all people and that bolster the prosperity and rights of those who have been excluded from educational and economic opportunity.

Experience

Applicants will have demonstrated experience in public policy, research, statistical analysis, or organizational strategy. Experience may be in a professional setting or an academic setting. Professional experience in early childhood services, K-12 education, higher education, or workforce development is preferred but not required.

Compensation

The $75,000 - $80,000 salary range for this position includes a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, life and AD&D insurance, paid sick and personal leave, and stipends for work-from-home expenses and professional development. We also offer a 401(k) plan and match up to 4% of employee contributions. All employees are eligible for end-of-year bonus pay. We utilize a tenure system that allows for equitable, consistent, and predictable salary growth over time, so that you can grow within a role that you love. The final salary within this range will be determined based on experience and qualifications.

Location

This position is fully remote. Travel is required for an in-person Staff Advances, 2-3 optional face-to-face co-working days per year, and potentially in-person client meetings and/or conferences.

Salary : $75,000 - $80,000
