Job Summary: The ELL Instructional and Family Support Specialist is a supplemental ELL position responsible for the following areas
- Enhancing the core by providing instructional support and differentiated curriculum development for teachers of newcomers and experienced multilingual students
- Supporting family engagement
- Providing differentiated professional development to different employee groups
This position works with the English Language Learner Coordinator to accelerate ELL student learning, build staff capacity, support the program vision and goals, and respond to parent and community needs. The position requires data collection on all of the categories above.
- Extended Contract: 10 days
- Salary Supplement: $7,000

Hiring Specifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
Certification
- Qualifications of a teacher as prescribed by the Iowa Department of Education
- English Language Learner endorsement
Experience (required)
- Successful experience teaching/implementing curriculum for ELL students for at least 5 years.
- Prior formal leadership experience: leading PLCs, mentoring, or serving on curriculum design teams
- Experience implementing research-based instructional strategies and differentiated instruction
- Adult Learning Theory: Prior experience training adults, planning, facilitating, and providing professional learning and workshops to teachers, coaches, and administrators, and understanding how to effectively communicate with fellow professionals.
- Practical experience in conducting classroom observations and delivering constructive, non-evaluative feedback.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of aligning and integrating the ELL Curriculum
- Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies and differentiated instruction
- Knowledge of interpretation and implementation of ELL-specific formative and summative assessment data

- Intermediate computer skills (Google Suites, search function, student information systems, basic Promethean)
- High computer skills (familiarity with Education Tech Tools and informational systems specific to the position

Job Duties:
- Work collaboratively with the ELL Coordinator to disseminate resources and related materials that enhance and support the linguistic and academic progress of English Language Learners across the district.
- Work collaboratively with the ELL Coordinator and other appropriate staff to plan and develop professional learning opportunities on ELL-related topics.
- Work collaboratively with the ELL Coordinator to assess staff and community learning needs.
- Provide ongoing professional development for teachers and staff who educate English Language Learners.
- Support building staff in implementing the English Language Proficiency Standards by providing professional learning, training, and workshops.
- Provide one-to-one training in the classroom by planning, co-teaching, and modeling ELL best practices and strategies.
- Monitor and assist in implementing supplemental curricular resources to inform district decisions regarding curricular or program modifications.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide non-evaluative feedback.
- Collect and compile ELL data from multiple sources to support data-driven decision-making at the district level.
- Facilitate ELL staff PLC and ensure the work is aligned with the LIEP goals
- Develop and support family-engagement events and activities at the building level.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
