POSITION: Prep Cook
DEPARTMENT: Culinary
WORK AREA: Skilled Nursing
The purpose of this position is to prepare and provide food service to residents in a cost-efficient manner to safely meet residents’ need in compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
Responsibilities for the Cook position:
· Prepare residents’ diets in accordance with the diet orders and daily menus.
· Assist the Dietary Services Director to determine the amount and type of food necessary to prepare the daily menus.
· Monitor use of food to eliminate waste.
· Stock food in compliance with dietary policies and procedures.
· Handle and prepare food in sanitary manner. Using barrier when handling cooked foods i.e. gloves, hair cover-up.
· Prepare food, which is palatable and appetizing in appearance.
· Follow oral and written directions.
· Keeps work area clean and sanitize work surface after food preparation.
· Follow written menus and recipes and spread sheets.
· Understand and be able to prepare therapeutic diets.
· Be responsible for avoiding food waste.
· Assume responsibility for meeting meal schedules.
· Work cooperatively with food service staff and other departments.
· Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
· Attend in-service training programs for food service employees.
· Perform other related duties as direct by his/her supervisor.
· Perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.
· Observe infection control procedure.
· Follow Residents’ Rights policies at all times.
· Assume accountability for all data contained in the employees’ handbook.
· Participates in special event meals and activities.
· Oversees dietary department in the absence of the food service director/supervisor.
· Follow appropriate dress code; conduct yourself in a caring, courteous and professional manner.
· All other duties assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications:
· High school graduate or equivalency preferred.
· 1-year experience in food service, preferably in Healthcare facilities and cooking.
· Must have a genuine interest and desire to work with the senior population.
· Must be able to lift 50lbs.
