Waterford Union High School is seeking a qualified candidate to join its support staff building maintenance team as a full-time groundskeeper. This is a 12-month position (40 hours per week) with full benefits and paid holidays. Standard work schedule is 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Mondays through Fridays with occasional overtime required. Please note: Flexibility is required to accommodate weather-dependent and seasonal needs, which may necessitate occasional weekend or holiday work. Overtime or holiday pay will be provided for all hours worked outside of the standard 40-hour week.

Duties include maintenance of the high school outside facilities and groundskeeping, etc.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining an effective and efficient grounds service and preventative maintenance system.
  • Works closely with the Director of Buildings and Grounds and the Superintendent to inspect buildings and perform repairs as requested.
  • Preparation work for athletic events.
  • Reports to work during off times in emergency situations.
  • Properly complete daily and scheduled assignments.
  • Completes 95% of preventative maintenance work orders within five (5) working days.
  • Provide building and grounds security as assigned.
  • Actively contribute to reducing energy consumption per energy conservation program.
  • Maintain a high degree of self-motivation and self-direction; express a positive and cooperative attitude and work ethic.
  • Must be able to serve as a positive role model.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including custodial and housekeeping services such as cleaning, vacuuming, sweeping, trash removal, snow removal, moving industrial-grade furniture, repairs, as well as building and grounds maintenance, etc.

Qualifications: Five (5) years experience in maintenance / grounds-keeping. This should include a thorough working knowledge of the following.

  • Ability to operate and maintain commercial grounds equipment.
  • Knowledge of all school sports and the ability to prep and maintain athletic fields.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required at the time of hire or for the continuation of employment.
  • Good organization and public relation skills.

Education and Requirements:

  • Ability to meet all requirements and responsibilities, including a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Obtain within six months of hire and maintain throughout duration of his/her employment a valid Wisconsin certified pesticides applicator license, Turf and Landscape (Commercial Cat. 3.0).
  • Maintain a valid Wisconsin driver license throughout duration of his/her employment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and effectively solve problems.
  • Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions.

Physical and Work Environment:

  • The physical and work environment described is representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, bend, twist and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and perform repetitive motions; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee may occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move up to 90 pounds, and with assistance, move and transport materials and equipment in excess of 200 pounds.
  • The employee will regularly lift and transport items, including but not limited to lifting garbage bags out of 55 gallon trash barrels and transporting the bags, which could weigh up to 60 lbs., and lifting up folding cafeteria tables (weighing up to 335 lbs.) at the center and pushing the folded tables on wheels up to 50% of working hours.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is expected to work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. The employee may be required to work in close quarters where temperatures can be in excess of 100 °F.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

Terms of Employment:

· Twelve-month year with full benefits.

· Subject to the terms of the Waterford Union High School Employee Handbook.
