What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water/Sewer Operator position at Waterford Municipal Authority?
The Waterford Municipal Authority (WMA) is seeking an energetic, self motivated individual for the position of water and waste water treatment operator. This position is full time and comes with a salary and benefits package that includes health care insurance, vacation time, and a municipal pension plan. The following are the minimal and advanced requirements for the position:
Physical Demands / Work Environment
§ Physical demands include digging and shoveling with shovel/spade; driving poles into the ground; bending and kneeling; heavy lifting and moving of materials and equipment.
§ The ability to work where exposure to environmental factors may cause discomfort and poses a limited risk of injury; involves exposure to dirt, dust, grease, lab chemicals, high-voltage electrical current, moving traffic, loud noise, odors, and extremes in weather.
§ Must wear the required personal protective equipment for certain job duties and assignments. Must be able to lift or move up to one hundred pounds.
Minimum Requirements
§ High School diploma or equivalent
§ Valid driver’s license.
§ Must be able to read and speak fluent English, understand and accurately follow operating instructions both written and verbal.
§ Must demonstrate mathematical ability perform calculations to determine various ratios, dosages, volumetric calculations that are required for the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
§ Proficient in public relations, customer service, and both written and verbal communication.
§ Proficient in computer operating systems and the basic operation of database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs.
§ Understands and able to maintain plant processes through computer-controlled equipment.
§ Be available for overtime work, on call duty and for emergency call-out duty.
§ Must assist other departments when requested by supervisor system manager (e.g. Assist borough maintenance, other town entities).
§ Must perform any reasonable function necessary to promote Town operations as requested by system manager.
Additional knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) for advanced entry level pay:
- Operation of heavy equipment (e.g. Backhoe, dump truck, excavator, jetter truck)
- Specific experience in waste water management such as operating a sludge press, troubleshooting sewage lift station pumps, generators and performing chemical analysis.
- Possesses a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Evidence of management experience.
- Specific experience in municipal water supply management including maintaining wells, water storage tower/tank, filtration and chemical delivery system and automated computer controls.
- Skill in motor vehicle maintenance, repairs, and welding.
