Basic Function:

Interaction with and direct supervision of residents at the Specialized Trauma-Informed Treatment, Assessment and Reunification (STTAR) Program in accordance with state, agency, and departmental guidelines. Performs duties as shift supervisor in the absence of the shift supervisor.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise, counsel, train, orient, and evaluate all children under their supervision.
  2. Ensure an appropriate environment where safety and security is maintained for all residents.
  3. Take immediate corrective action as necessary and report all deficiencies in health standards, safety standards, and general housekeeping standards to the shift supervisor or Director of Residential Services .
  4. Ensure the basic needs of the residents assigned to their care are met. These needs include personal hygiene, nutrition and personal comfort items, such as clothing, and living conditions.
  5. Supervise all aspects of daily routines, to include meals, wake-up and bed-time, showers, recreational activities, etc.
  6. Ensure supervision of students is in accordance with the STTAR Behavioral/Incentive Program and shelter procedures.
  7. Respond in accordance with agency and shelter procedures to situations, which require physical and/or emotional intervention with the residents.
  8. Respond in accordance with agency and shelter procedures to all emergency situations, i.e., medical, fire, police intervention, etc.
  9. Follow guidelines, as prescribed by the health clinic and other medical professionals, for the medical care of residents.
  10. Maintain all necessary documentation including log books, incident reports, use of force forms, checklists, etc.
  11. Develop and coordinate recreation activities.
  12. Attend and provide input to shelter team meetings. Assist in the development of treatment plans through the shelter team meetings.
  13. Perform duties as shift supervisor in the absence of the shift supervisor.
  14. Administer a training program for entry level personnel, as developed by the shift supervisor.
  15. If State certified, administer medications to residents according to established procedures. Maintain State Certifications.
  16. Maintain knowledge of and follow Agency policies and procedures as contained in the WCS Personnel Handbook, WCS Procedure Manual, and departmental manuals.
  17. Function as a positive role model for all students and staff at the Waterford Country School.
  18. Maintain an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic differences present among the service population and fellow staff members of WCS, ensuring that cultural needs are respected and supported through the delivery of services and the development and implementation of agency programs and policies in a manner that is free from discrimination and bias relating to race, ethnicity, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, status as a victim of domestic violence or religious beliefs.
  19. Maintain a valid Connecticut or other home state Driver’s License to transport residents in agency vehicles.
  20. Other duties as assigned by the shift supervisor or STTAR administrative personnel.

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

Associates Degree with three years experience at an appropriate child caring facility, or five years comparable experience. State of Connecticut Medication Administration Certification preferred.
